Solar panels installed on a stone cottage in Devon.

Local energy installers who take the details seriously.

Based in Exeter and Devon. MCS-certified. NICEIC and TrustMark. We design solar, battery, and EV charger systems around how you actually use energy - then install neatly, commission properly, and hand over an Evidence Pack showing exactly what was done.

Why we started Watt & Waves

Plenty of solar companies do a good job. But too often, the experience still feels like a hardware sale: measure the roof, fit a system, and move on. If you're lucky, you get a folder of documents you'll never use.

We started Watt & Waves because we kept seeing the same problem: homeowners investing a significant amount in solar and still being left guessing what they'd actually get - and installers who didn't stick around to make sure the system was working as promised.

The issue isn't usually the hardware. It's everything that happens around it.

Matt Holloway founded Watt & Waves in 2024 after years spent around residential electrical work, retrofit projects, and homeowner-facing design decisions in the South West. He saw too many people committing serious money to solar without getting straight answers on performance, workmanship, or what handover would look like once the installers had gone.

We believe the job isn't done when the panels are on the roof. It's done when you can see the system is working, understand what normal looks like, and have everything you need for warranty claims, insurance, or selling your home. That's why every installation ends with an Evidence Pack - not a folder of paperwork, but a clear record of what was installed, how it's configured, and what it's producing.

“We got into this because we saw too many installations where the homeowner was left guessing whether it was actually working. We wanted to do better.”

Every job follows the same process

We don't cut corners. Every installation - from a single EV charger to a full solar, battery and charger package - follows the same six-step process. Each step has a clear purpose and a specific deliverable. This is how we ensure consistent quality, and how you know exactly what to expect.

1

Site survey - we look at what most installers skip

We visit your property and assess more than just roof space. We check roof condition, shading at different times of day, cable routes, consumer unit capacity, mounting options, and where equipment should go. We review your electricity usage and tariff to model the right system size. If something won't work, we tell you now - not halfway through installation.

Deliverable: Written site survey report with roof assessment, proposed layout, and identified constraints.

Residential roof photographed during the design and layout stage.
2

Design - sized for your usage, not your roof

We design the system around how and when you use electricity - not just how many panels your roof can fit. We model expected generation, self-consumption, export, and savings for your specific tariff. Every assumption is explained. If a battery doesn't improve your returns, we say so.

Deliverable: Design proposal with system layout, expected performance, and a fixed-price quote. Every assumption documented.

3

Install - neat, professional, and considerate

Our installation team follows the design specification exactly. Neat cable runs. Labelled isolators. Sensible routes. Weatherproof fixings. We treat every property as if it's our own. We photograph key stages of the work - not just the finished product.

Deliverable: Complete installation with photo documentation at each stage.

Battery and inverter equipment ready for commissioning and verification.
4

Commissioning - where the real savings are won

This is the step that often gets rushed. We configure monitoring, set battery charging schedules, programme export settings, and tune the system for your specific tariff and usage pattern. We test circuits, verify monitoring, and make sure everything is communicating properly.

Deliverable: Commissioned system with verified settings, monitoring active, and performance baseline established.

5

Evidence Pack - everything you need in one place

We hand you a clear Evidence Pack containing certificates, configuration records, warranties, and monitoring guidance so you can prove what was installed and how it was set up.

Deliverable: Physical or digital Evidence Pack - not a manual you'll never read, but a useful record you'll actually need.

Follow-up visit reviewing monitoring and next steps with the homeowner.
6

Aftersales - we follow up, not disappear

After handover, we check in to confirm everything is performing as expected. We show you how to read the monitoring data and what to look out for. If something isn't right, we come back. We're local - Exeter and Devon - and we're not going anywhere.

Deliverable: Post-installation check-in. Ongoing support from a real local team when you need us.

Evidence Pack

Every install ends with a practical handover pack. It gives you the paperwork you actually need, the settings that matter later, and a clear record of what was installed so nothing is left to guesswork.

MCS certificate

Electrical installation certificate

Commissioning record with all configured settings

Photo log of key installation stages

Workmanship guarantee details (10 years, insurance-backed)

Manufacturer warranties (including 25-year panel performance warranty)

Monitoring access and setup guide

Performance reference showing what normal output looks like

Accreditations and homeowner protection

The logos matter because they translate into paperwork, audit trails, and protection for the homeowner. Here's what each one means in practice.

MCS accreditation logo

MCS - Microgeneration Certification Scheme

What it means for you: MCS is the UK's recognised quality scheme for small-scale renewables. Most energy suppliers require an MCS certificate for Smart Export Guarantee payments. It also means our processes and a sample of installations are independently assessed.

Certified for: Solar PV design and installation

Certificate number: 45345345

How it's checked: Regular independent audits of process quality and sampled installations.

TrustMark logo

TrustMark

What it means for you: TrustMark is the UK government-endorsed quality scheme for trades working in and around homes. It signals that customer care, trading practices, and complaint handling are part of the quality bar - not just the install itself.

Certified for: Consumer protection, trading standards, and vetted renewable-install delivery.

How it's checked: Membership is tied to scheme-provider oversight, code-of-conduct requirements, and an auditable complaints process.

NICEIC accreditation logo

NICEIC

What it means for you: NICEIC registration means the electrical side of the job is installed, tested, and certified to recognised standards. That matters for safety, paperwork, and future alterations to the property.

Certified for: Electrical installation, testing, and certification associated with solar, battery, and EV charger work.

How it's checked: Independent technical assessment, ongoing scheme membership requirements, and sampled inspections of electrical work.
