The situation
New build with south-east facing roof. Customer wanted complete energy independence solution from day one. Two electric vehicles and high daytime usage from home working.
What we designed and installed
6.3 kW system (15x Trina 420 W panels), GivEnergy 9.5 kWh battery, and myenergi Zappi 7 kW charger with solar diversion. Full monitoring configured with Octopus Intelligent Go tariff for overnight EV charging.
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Solar PV | 6.3 kW - 15 x Trina 420 W |
| Inverter | Hybrid inverter |
| Battery | GivEnergy (9.5 kWh) |
| EV Charger | myenergi Zappi 7 kW |
| Monitoring | Unified monitoring app |
| Tariff configured | Octopus Intelligent Go |
How we set it up
Solar generation, battery dispatch, and EV charging were commissioned as a single control strategy with usage-led scheduling and verification.
Results
Generating approximately 6,100 kWh/year. Self-consumption approximately 80%. Saving approximately GBP1,500/year (combined solar + battery + EV tariff optimisation). System payback projected at approximately 7 years.
| Metric | Value | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Annual generation | Approximately 6,100 kWh/year | Estimated |
| Self-consumption | Approximately 80% | Estimated |
| Annual savings | Approximately GBP1,500/year | Estimated - Octopus Intelligent Go |
| Estimated payback | Approximately 7 years | Estimated (based on current tariff rates) |
Results labelled estimated are based on system modelling and typical usage patterns. Results labelled observed are based on actual monitoring data collected after installation. Observed results may differ from estimates due to weather, usage changes, and tariff adjustments.
